ISSUE SUMMARY

Cover Description: Monarch II destroys Booster Gold's Mark IV armor, tearing circuitry directly out of the chestplate.

Brief Synopsis: Frustrated at being trapped inside a tin suit, Booster turns to Monarch II for help.

Issue Summary: In New York City, Monarch is cleaning up after his own genetic experiments (as seen in Extreme Justice #8).

In Mount Thunder, the Extreme Justice team engages in a holographic strategy exercise that Firestorm wins using some creative, high risk tactics. Amazing Man and Maxima depart to explore their growing romanitc feelings for one another while Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, and Firestorm continue to train.

As Firestorm continues to cheat to win, Booster storms off. Booster is privately concerned about his failing life-support and makes the decision to turn to Monarch for help. When Beetle realizes what Booster has done, he assembles the team to head to New York to stop him. On the way there, Booster's life-support readings flatline, implying that he has died.

The team storms Monarch's spaceship, overcome his defenses, and are quite surprised to find Booster alive and healthy. Reveal Potential Spoilers

DON'T MAKE 'EM LIKE THEY USED TO: Booster hides from Blue Beetle and Firestorm as he nurses his feelings and his Mark IV exoskeleton, both of which have recently been hurt. Booster is irritated at Beetle and Firestorm, for leaving him behind to enjoy life while he remains chained to his life-support systems. His armor was apparently damaged in Extreme Justice #9 during a fight with the aliens Zan and Jayna. Booster reveals that the damage has caused a failure in his "pain-blocking circuits," leaving Booster in chronic pain.

ISSUE REVIEW

Boosterrific Review: The actions of Booster Gold provide most of the dramatic tension in this issue as Booster finally makes a fateful decision that has been been teased for months. New series writer Robert Washington III, the series' fourth writer in the past year, presents an issue that will appeal primarily to established fans; the various plots in this issue all hinge on longtime series' subplots. Washington comes into a ready-made situation and his only noticeable injection into the stories is an accusation of racism against Maxima.
